National Merit Cum Means Scholarship 2022

NMMS stands for National Merit Cum-Means Scholarship which was launched in May 2008.

This scheme was initiated by the school education department under the supervision of the human resource development ministry.

NMMS was launched in India to support the students from class 9th to 12th financially by granting them Rs. 12000 annually. The financially weaker sections in every state are beneficiary of this scholarship scheme.

Benefits of the Scheme

The scholarship is very beneficial for the economically backward students in our country. The main benefit includes support of 12000 rupees yearly to the beneficiary student. Also, This scheme enables the economically weak students to get an education after the 8th class.

Generally, a student dropout ratio increases after passing out of this class, because after that student mostly fails to afford the school education. Also, the NMMS scholarship gives chance to 100000 meritorious students every year to continue their secondary education.

Amount Disbursed Under NMMS

The selected beneficiaries of the scholarship get their award amount every year directly in their saving bank account through direct bank transfer of NSP.

They get their scholarship through the State Bank of India and the public financial management system.

The amount distributed to the beneficiary is as follows:

  • After the results are declared, the student gets his scholarship amount in class 9th and 10th each.
  • The amount is a total of 12000 INR which is given in class 9th and 10th to the student.
  • The student gets the amount in a one-time yearly disbursal of the scholarship.
  • After class 10th, the student can apply for the renewal.
  • If it gets renewed the student will get the amount in class 11th as well.
  • Moreover, if the student is eligible in class 12th, he will get the benefit again after the renewal of the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria For Applying For Scholarship

To check your eligibility for the scholarship application read the below guide carefully:

For New Applicants

  • The annual family income of the student must be 1.5 lakh INR or less. Otherwise, he/she is not eligible.
  • The candidate studying in a government school is eligible.
  • The candidate cannot apply for the scholarship if his school provides facilities like lodging, boarding, etc.
  • The applicant should not be a student of private schools, KVS, NVS.
  • The general student should have scored a minimum of 55% in his annual exams of the 7th class.
  • For SC students the cut-off is 50% marks in the previous yearly examinations.
  • All the 8th class students are eligible for the scheme.
  • The student after 10th and 11th can also apply for the renewal of the NMMS scholarship scheme.

For Renewal After 10th Class

  • The student must have a score of 60% marks or more in the 10th annual board exams.
  • For continuation of scholarship in class 11th, the student should clear his +1 with a minimum of 55% mark. And he will get his renewed scholarship amount in the 12th class.

SAT and MAT Examinations 2022

There is an exam conducted which comprises of two different tests for the student in the selection process.

The first test is comprised of questions to test the scholastic aptitude while the other test helps in assessing the reasoning ability of the candidate.

Both tests should be completed under a 90-minute duration. The specially-abled students are provided extra minutes to complete the exam. The exam results decide who will be selected for the scholarship grant.

The details of both tests are as follow:

  • The first test name is MAT (mental ability test)
  • The test duration is 90 minutes.
  • This test checks the previous academic knowledge of the candidate.
  • The student has to cover the syllabus of preceding classes to pass the exams.
  • This test comprises questions for 90 marks on the subjects given below:
  • ENGLISH COMPREHENSION AND GRAMMAR - 20 marks
  • MENTAL ABILITY - 45 marks

Selection Criteria

Candidates for the exam are selected on a merit basis, the highest-scoring students are selected from every state and UT.

WBMDFC Scholarship Conditions

Eligibility Criteria For New Applicants 

1.  Pre-Matric Scholarship

Pre matric scholarship includes students of up to 10th class.
There are two categories: 1st to 5th class (day scholars only)
6th to 10th class (day scholar and hostelers)
The annual family income should be less than or equal to 2 lakh rupees.
The student should be a permanent resident of West Bengal state.
Students studying outside the state are not eligible for the scholarship.
The student must have a minimum score of 50% in the previous year’s examination.
The student must be studying in a recognized institute by the state/central government.

2. Post-Matric Scholarship

Post matric scholarship is provided to the day scholars and hostellers of  11th class and higher studies.
The category includes +1 and +2 class 11th and 12th class with vocational and technical courses.
Undergraduate and postgraduate.M.Phil students.    
The students who are studying in a recognized educational institute of state government or central government are eligible.
The student has scored at least 50% in the previous year/semester examination. The student must be a domicile of West Bengal.
The annual family income should not exceed 2 lakh rupees. The students studying outside of the state are not eligible for the post-matric scholarship.

3. Merit Cum Means Scholarship

CA, medical engineering, management law, etc courses.
The annual family income should be 250000 rupees or less. The applicant should be a resident of West Bengal.
The candidate must be enrolled for any technical or professional course.
There must be a minimum of 50% score in the last examinations in the previous year.
The student resident of West Bengal but studying outside is also eligible for listed institutes by WBMDFC.

4. Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship

The yearly overall income of the candidate’s family is fixed at 2.5 lakh INR.  

5. Hindi Scholarship Scheme Eligibility

Scholarship for Students who are good at the Hindi language.
The amount of scholarship is around 3000 to 10000 rupees per month.    
The student should be a permanent resident of the state. The applicant must have Hindi as a compulsory subject.
The minimum score in the previous examination should be 60%.The students studying outside West Bengal are not eligible for the scheme.

6. Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship Scheme

BKMB scholarship is provided to the backward community students of
Class 10thClass +1 and +2Graduation Post-Graduation. The amount given is 3000 per month.  
Only the girl students can apply for this scholarship scheme. The student must be a domicile of West Bengal.
The applicant from SC/ST/OBC community is eligible only. For SC/ST students, the annual family income should not exceed 2,50,000 rupees.
The yearly family income for OBC applicants is fixed at 1 lakh INR. The students studying in institutes outside the state are not eligible.

7. Talent Support Programme Eligibility

Students who have completed their technical/professional degrees will be covered under the scheme.
The amount is provided as a stipend to the candidates.
The family income of the applicant should be 2.5 lakh INR or less. The student should be a domicile of the state.
A minimum score of 50% marks is required for eligibility. The candidate should be admitted to a professional/technical course.
The students enrolled in listed institutions by WBMDFC which are outside of West Bengal are eligible for the programme.

Eligibility Criteria For Scholarship Renewal

If a student is already enrolled for any of the grants under West Bengal government scholarship schemes. Then for renewal of application, the students must have scored 50% or above marks in their previous examination.

For +1 and +2 class students who are living in hostels (enrolled for vocational and technical courses): About 11000 INR of the are amount is waived off for admission and tuition fee. The yearly maintenance allowance for hostellers is 4200 INR. For Undergraduate and Postgraduate students who are living in hostels: The admission fee and tuition fee waiver are 3300 INR.   The maintenance allowance for the year is up to 6300 INR. For M.Phil students who are hostellers:   3300 rupees is waived off for admission and tuition fee. The maintenance allowance waiver is 6000 INR.
Merit Cum Means ScholarshipFor professional courses and technical courses i.e., chartered accountant, medical courses, related to Law, etc. The amount for admission fee and tuition fee provided is 22000 INR per year.    Up to 5500 rupees are provided as the maintenance allowance to the students.Hostellers enrolled in professional courses: The tuition fee and other fee is covered up to 22000 rupees.   The allowance for hostellers is to the extent of 5500 rupees.

Eligibility Criteria

Some major terms and conditions need to be followed for applying for this scholarship by the government of West Bengal. These conditions may include:

  • It is important to note that the candidate must be a resident of West Bengal state.
  • The organization in which you are studying must be situated within West Bengal.
  • This condition must be fulfilled that you must be studying at the post-madhyamik level and in the institute of West Bengal after the secondary education
  • The income for the whole family should not exceed rupees 250000.
  • For the studies of higher secondary level, the applicant should have cleared madhyamik pariksha with a minimum of 75 percent.
  • Eligibility criteria for the diploma is that the student should be passed out from madhyamik pariksha with a minimum percentage of 75.
  • In the other courses like undergraduate, the students must have passed their secondary examination with 75 aggregate. These aggregates must be from the best five examinations.
  • For the post-graduation course, the candidates have mastered general education or the honors subjects with 53 percentage. If they have done their masters in the engineering field, it is a must to have at least 55 percent.
  • Applicants of kanyashree should be pursuing their PG in commerce, arts, and science. They need to complete their graduation. The minimum percentage that should be achieved by them is 45.

This scheme has been implemented by the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy. It was established on 24 February 2020.

Under the Jagananna Vasathi Deevena Scheme, the government will provide a 100% fee scholarship for poor students who are below the poverty line.

The first installment release date was 19 April 2020. The amount was 671.45 crores and the beneficiary was 10.88 lakhs students.
