On the eve of 74th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) under which Health ID will be issued to every Indian.
This idea was initially proposed by India’s think tank Niti Aayog in June 2018 for wider consultation for digitizing India’s health care system called National Health Stack
This scheme will bring a big revolution in the health care sector and provide access to a healthcare facility for every single person in this country.

What is Health ID Card 2022?
A health ID Card is a unique digital information card where the complete health profile of a person is stored. It will completely eradicate the problem of getting treatment in various healthcare facilities across the country. It will be issued to every person
A 14 digit unique number will be provided for each individual
Each of the Health IDs is provided as an account wherein every visit to a doctor will be recorded in it. Similarly, the prescription from the healthcare facility, lists of tests done to you, medical reports and major diseases diagnosed will be digitally saved.
Hospital and health profession details who treated your ailment will be logged into your database
Ownership of the health database will be sole with individual
With this scheme, people do not require to carry physical health records each time they visit the hospital.
Health infrastructure in the country will improve because of the implementation of the technology
Government Action Plan For One Nation One Health Card
An amount of Rs. 500 crores have been allocated in the first phase for implementation of the scheme
This mission for implementation of this will be headed by union health minister will supervise and guide the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM)
Group members in this mission will include ministers of Information Technology, AYUSH, Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment, Member Health (NITI Aayog), the principal scientific advisor, health secretaries, and the CEO of National Health Authority
The central government is considering launching this National Health ID Card in a phased manner first covering urban areas and gradually expanding the scheme to rural areas of the country
This health ID scheme will be started on a pilot basis in union territories like Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Ladakh by August end
- In the second phase, it will be launched in additional states
- After that, this scheme will be rolled out all across India
- Since the announcement has been made only on Aug 15, 2020, by PM Narendra Modi, implementation of this scheme may take some more time.

Due to fears of data privacy of the people, the government is considering the limit of access to your health data to medical professions/doctors only after your prior permission
Your data will be shared only one time with those medical professionals who treat you for disease
Another important thing about this scheme is it is optional to link your health data with a unique health id issued by the government
Aaadhar card will be linked with the Health ID card database of individuals for availing other direct benefit transfer schemes
Health ID data will be linked to the health consent manager which seeks the patient’s permission before sharing your health data with doctors from the personal health records module of the centralized database
This Health ID card scheme will be optional, people can enroll or can opt-out if they have any doubts or fears of data privacy
By not making it mandatory for everyone to opt for Health ID Card, the government quoted saying that people who opted out will also be given priority treatment without questioning them
Gradually this Health ID card scheme will be connected only with clinics or hospitals but also with insurance companies who can accurately take a decision on insurance claims by patients. Medical stores will also be connected at a later stage

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
EMRs are digital health records database which is used within a hospital or a clinic to support patient diagnosis and treatment. NDHM will update these records to support standards and provide access to patient’s data.
Electronic Health Records (EHR)
EHRs will have records of a patient accessible with doctors and healthcare professionals across the country and are used within a Healthcare system (with state governments interlinked) to provide better care for patients.
Personal Health Records (PHR)
PHRs is a software application system that facilitates patients to add medical data, compile and update their own records which can help them better manage their healthcare
Digi Doctor Platform (Doctor’s Directory)
It is a single, updated repository of all doctors in the nation with details such as name, qualifications, name of the institutions of qualifications, specializations, registration number with State medical councils and experience.
The directory will be kept up-to-date as new doctors pass out from medical colleges
Health Facility Registry
The Health Facility Registry is a repository of all the healthcare facilities. The registry will be centralized which store and facilitate the exchange of data between public and private healthcare facilities in the country.
The registry will allow health facilities to access their profile and update it periodically with specialities and services to provide a secure platform to maintain all important information.
Facilities will be able to e-sign documents such as patient records, apply for empanelment and have easier claims processing

Generate Health ID Card Online
- Firstly, you have to visit the National Digital Health Mission official website
- On the homepage, click on the ‘Create Your Health ID Now‘ button
- As of now, this scheme is implemented in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
- Now, the registration page will open on your computer screen
- After that, click on the ‘Generate via Aadhaar’ button
- When you enter your aadhaar number, it will send you an SMS to your mobile number
- Authenticate it by entering an OTP number to login to the website
- If you don’t want to use your Aadhaar, you can use your mobile number to generate a Health ID
- You can see the option of Generate Health ID and fill all the details in the online form correctly
- Finally, click on the ‘Submit’ button and your Health ID will be generated.

Process To Login @ healthid.ndhm.gov.in
- First of all, go to the National Digital Health Mission portal
- Now, click on the ‘Login‘ tab at the top of the menu
- After that, the login page will open in front of you
- To continue to your Health ID account, you have to enter the generated Health ID number
- Subsequently, you have to click on the ‘Submit’ button
- Finally, you will login to your Health ID dashboard, where you can access your health records
Enroll For Digi Doctor Account
- Firstly, visit the official National Digital Health Mission website
- On the homepage, click on the ‘Enroll‘ button
- On the new page, under the Generate your DigiDoctor ID tab, click on the ‘Register via Aadhaar’ button
- Now, enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID number
- After that, click on the ‘Submit’ button
- Immediately, you will get an OTP to your registered mobile number
- Enter the received OTP number on the portal and login to your dashboard
- Subsequently, you have to fill the registration form with the following details

- Employment details (optional)
- After you have done with filling up of the form, submit for the review
